SPRINGFIELD -- As Governor Quinn signed the Marriage Equality Bill into law, a bishop was saying prayers of exorcism at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. When you hear the word "exorcism," Hollywood movies might come to mind, but this is considered a minor exorcism.

It's for Catholics to come together to pray about the state's legal redefinition of marriage. Bishop Thomas Paprocki says the debate is not a political struggle, but rather a destruction of God's plan for marriage.

He says the devil is trying to deceive people and the exorcism is similar to those done during the sacraments of baptism and confirmation. The bishop also noted, he believes politicians who enabled this bill have sinned.

He says everyone's a sinner and recognizing it is the starting point for being a Christian. The bishop says going forward, he'll call it "holy matrimony" to show a difference between the sacrament and the new law.
