Expo finds different home, construction continues at new site

CHAMPAIGN -- An annual event has had to find a new home. The spot booked for the disABILITY Resource Expo won't be ready in time. Another event at the Fluid Event Center also had to be rescheduled. The One Week Boutique was moved to Urbana.

The event center owners plan to be ready for business in the next two weeks, but that will be a little too late for the upcoming expo. Yard signs promoting it were already put up around town. Expo organizers say they'll go back to Lincoln Square instead. They have no hard feelings toward Fluid Events.

The hold-up is construction. The building which will be the Fluid Event Center used to be a lumberyard, so it's getting some work done now. Builders used some scrap lumber to build original bar areas. Organizers say they've had to shuffle around the calendar a bit, but they're grateful people have been so understanding.

"It's taking a little bit, but all for the best," said Michael Galloway, director of the Champaign Blues Fest, which is covered by Fluid Events. "We're making sure everything's going to be right on and ready to go for everybody when we do open. It's going to be amazing."

Another project being built just behind the Fluid Event Center is a haunted house. It's still in the construction phase too, but the owners plan to have it done before Halloween. They are also looking for volunteers to be involved with the haunted house. For more information, click here.

Organizers for the disABILITY Expo say Fluid Events is still involved with the program like it has been for the past few years. They say they're still planning to pull off their best expo yet next Saturday. For more details about the expo, click here.
