Former local leader remembered fondly

CHAMPAIGN -- People are remembering a former city leader who died.
CHAMPAIGN -- People are remembering a former city leader who died. Warren Browning was city manager between 1962 - 1974.

For many of those years, UI students and people around the country protested the Vietnam War. Former Champaign Mayor Dannel McCollum says Browning did what he had to do with tricky situations like that.

After leaving Champaign, Browning went to Centralia. He became the city manager there as well and served as that city's mayor. People who knew Browning say they have many fond memories of him.
