PEORIA -- The Big 12 conference is expanding by four schools.  The Peoria District 150 school board voted Monday night to send Peoria High, Manual and Richwoods to the Big 12.  They will enter the league alongside Peoria Notre Dame, which had previously reached an agreement to join the conference. All four of those schools are currently "independents" for football.

The Peoria schools will begin competition in the Big 12 next year in "championship" sports, which includes wrestling, golf, track & field, tennis and cross-country.  The athletic directors will decide when to phase in the rest of the sports at a meeting January 9th.

This move brings the number of Big 12 conference schools to 11.  Decatur Eisenhower and MacArthur are leaving the league after this school year.  That leaves Champaign Central, Centennial, Urbana, Danville, Bloomington, Normal and Normal West as the seven schools in the Big 12.
