Garoppolo honored as EIU rises in polls

Eastern Illinois will travel to Northern Illinois Saturday, and NIU head coach Rod Carey had some big-time praise for the Panthers Monday. Carey told reporters that EIU is "probably the best team they have played." This coming just two weeks after NIU beat the Iowa Hawkeyes in their season opener. EIU quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was honored Monday as the National Offensive Player of the Week by The Sports Network. Garoppolo passed for a school-record seven touchdowns and 480 yards in Saturday's 57-24 win over Illinois State. The win moved the Panthers up again in the national rankings. They are now up to No 8 in the Sports Network poll and No. 10 in the Coaches Poll. Eastern visits NIU Saturday at 6:00 pm. The game will be televised on ESPN3.
