GIFFORD -- No one was killed when a tornado rocked the town Sunday and that may have happened thanks, in part, to some vigilant neighbors. As of Sunday night, six people were injured in the tornado.

Neighbors say, just hours after the disaster, they went house-to-house calling out names and looking for survivors. According to the Champaign County Sheriff, some people may have been trapped immediately after the storm, but they were pulled free by friends and family.

The tornado damaged more than 200 homes and destroyed twenty. It scattered debris all over town. The town was evacuated Sunday night because of dangerous conditions on the ground.
