Glenda's Apple Dumplings

Makes 6 apple dumplings

Start with 6 apples, peeled and cored. I used honeycrisps but you can use any kind.

Dough:
2 1/4 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2/3 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk

Filling:
1/2 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Syrup:
2 cups water
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
pinch of nutmeg

Cut the dry dough ingredients together with a pastry cutter, then add milk until dough forms. Roll out and cut into six squares. Place a cored, peeled apple on each square of dough. Pour filling into the core of each apple and wrap dough around apple.

Bring all syrup ingredients to a boil until it thickens. Pour some syrup over dumplings and bake for at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Every 20 minutes, open the oven and baste dumplings with syrup (spoon out of pan and drizzle on top).

*If you want, you could get store-bought dough and skip having to make it yourself.*
