Illinois Lottery posts record sales

SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois Lottery posted record sales last year, but it wasn't necessarily good news for the company running the program.
SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois Lottery posted record sales last year, but it wasn't necessarily good news for the company running the program. Northstar took over the state lottery in July 2011.

At the time, the company promised a huge boost in sales. New figures fall short of that projection.

The lottery made $2.6 billion between July 2011 - June 2012. It's an 18% increase from the prior year.

According to Northstar's contract with the state, it may have to give some of its profits back if it didn't reach its initial goal of boosting sales. The company will find out in September if that's the case.
