Improved patient care translates to $aving$

SPRINGFIELD -- Hospitals are raising the bar on patient care.
SPRINGFIELD -- Hospitals are raising the bar on patient care. In 2010, 200 hospitals pleaded to make improvements.

A new study shows from 2011 - 2012, these healthcare systems reduced harm to patients in seven key areas. They're getting better at avoiding patient falls, ventilator-associated pneumonia and pressure ulcers.

While patients' health and safety are key, the efforts are also cutting costs for patients. The study shows 843 instances of patient harm were avoided which is about $18-million in savings.
