ILLINOIS--Illinois police are ready to enforce a slew of new laws that went into effect on Jan. 1st.

One of the laws police have been preparing to enforce is concealed carry.
People can begin applying for permits on January 5th.
Before the first license is issued, police officers are learning about the protocol they'll employ when approaching people and pulling them over.

Police are also on the lookout for people talking on their cell phones and not using a hands-free device, which is now illegal.

WCIA 3's Cynthia Bruno sat down with Champaign County Sheriff, Dan Walsh, and puts how officers get ready to implement the laws in perspective.
