In Perspective: The need for jurors

People in Champaign County can start checking their mailboxes for something new. What they're going to find is the first of its kind in the country.

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY-- People in Champaign County can start checking their mailboxes for something new.
What they're going to find is the first of its kind in the country.
The county's circuit clerk's office is the first in the country to allow potential jurors to fill out juror questionnaires by text messages or by using a QR code.
It also lets 

Katie Blakeman is the Circuit Clerk. 
She says this move is a way to help expand the overall jury pool in the county and cut down on costs.
She estimates that the county will save about $5,000 each year by sending out the juror response post cards instead of the paper questionnaires by mail.
That way they aren't spending as much money on paper and postage.
She also estimates they'll save about $7,000 on labor costs.
Her office did have to ask the county board to approve spending the money on the new software for these questionnaires during this fiscal year.
