SPRINGFIELD -- The stage is set for the Republican Primary in March. Each of the four candidates has picked their potential second-in-command.

Usually, you do not think of much power when it comes to the Lieutenant Governor, but this year is different. These choices could mean a few more votes in March in what has become a crowded field for the Republican Nomination.

Bruce Rauner is the last of his Republican colleagues to pick a running mate. His potential number two is a lot like himself.

"Our government is basically failing us," Rauner said.

Rauner touts himself as an outsider looking to shake up Springfield. His running mate, Evelyn Sanguinetti, is a political newcomer, serving her first term on the city council in west suburban Wheaton. Sanguinetti is not the only woman in the race.

State Senator Bill Brady chose Maria Rodriguez as his running mate. She served as Mayor of Long Grove, Illinois, for eight years, where she helped foster small businesses. Brady says she would take on a similar role in his administration.

State Senator Kirk Dillard pulled from his own team, picking Representative Jil Tracy. Tracy is on the state's Special Pension Committee and has served in the General Assembly since 2006.

State Treasurer Dan Rutherford picked the only male Lieutenant Governor candidate in the field. You may recognize Steve Kim. He ran for Attorney General in the last election. Rutherford says in his administration, Kim would be in charge of job creation.

"It's important that these businesses come into Illinois and I believe that's the role of a Lieutenant Governor."

A political analyst said having a woman for Lieutenant Governor would help more in the General Election. It may drive more women to vote Republican when there is a woman on the ticket.

On the other ticket, Governor Pat Quinn has not announced his running mate. Candidates have until Thanksgiving week to file their petitions.
