Man arrested after pharmacy robberies and car chase

MATTOON -- A man is behind bars after police say he robbed two pharmacies and led them on a car chase.
MATTOON -- A man is behind bars after police say he robbed two pharmacies and led them on a car chase. Officers responded to CVS Pharmacy in the 1300-block of  Charleston at 6:30 am Tuesday.

Employees told police a man entered the store and demanded money. He implied he had a weapon and fled when workers gave him cash.

At 7:50 am, officers responded to Walgreens Pharmacy in the 300-block of Logan Avenue. Officers saw a man fleeing in a Chevy Trailblazer and chased him until they determined it was a threat to public safety.

About 15 minutes later, the car was spotted in the 2600-block of Marshall Avenue. Officers followed the suspect until he crashed his vehicle into a brick column. He then fled on foot.

Officers and a K9 found him near the crash scene. The suspect was identified as 40-year old Terry W. Leece, of Champaign.
