A man accused of killing a 17-year old girl and her 3-week old daughter made his first court appearance today. 27-year old Eric Fagan was arraigned on several charges including murder and sexual assault.
He's accused of raping and killing Jade Ostermeier inside this Springfield home in 2010.  Prosecutors say he then lit the home on fire, killing the baby. Fagan is already in prison on another conviction, but he will be moved to the Sangamon County Jail to await trial.

Update: February 24, 10 pm
More than a year after a suspicious fire, a family is one step closer to justice. A Sangamon County Grand Jury charged a man with the deaths of a teen mother and her baby. WCIA-3 News spoke to the family by phone.
They say they're happy the charges are finally coming down. 27-year old Eric Fagan was charged with 3-counts of first degree murder in the deaths of Jade Ostermeier and her 3-week old daughter, Alexis.
Both were found inside this burning home back in December 2010. An autopsy later revealed Ostermeier died before the fire.
Late last year, authorities exhumed Jade's body to search for clues, which led to the indictment. The Sangamon County State's Attorney says it's one of the most challenging cases he's ever worked on.
Fagan faces life in prison. He's set to appear in court next week. Right now, he's in prison in Hillsboro on charges related to a 2007 armed robbery.

A Springfield man faces multiple charges including first degree murder, aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated arson. 23-year old Eric Fagan was indicted and charged today on 8 counts for the 2010 murders of 17-year old Jade Ostermeier and her 3-week old daughter.
It happened December 2, in the 700-block of West Maple. The bodies were found after the house was set on fire.
The victims' bodies were exhumed in December so a second autopsy could be performed. It was determined Ostermeier's body was burned and x-rays showed trauma to her back. The baby died of smoke inhalation.
Fagan's brother was Ostermeier's boyfriend at the time of her death. If convicted, Fagan faces life in prison without parole.
