SPRINGFIELD -- A key piece of the Affordable Care Act, the Health Insurance Marketplace, goes live Tuesday. It will offer dozens of options to cover those who are currently uninsured.

It turns out not a lot of people are in the know about Illinois' Health Insurance Marketplace, called Get Covered Illinois. In fact, a new survey by the Commonwealth Fund shows six out of 10 adults in the state admit they are clueless.

Amanda Kozar is a regional outreach coordinator for Get Covered Illinois. She said, "We know that there is a group of the population that does not know what's going to happen with the ACA, or what they're eligible for yet, but we want to take the time this October at the beginning of the marketing campaign to get them the information they need."

Kozar says the site will go live Tuesday with a major advertising campaign to go with it.

"Not everyone fully understands what's happening with the healthcare law, but we do have an open enrollment period that's six months long. So, from October 1, to the end of March and that gives us a lot of time to help get people educated about what's happening."

The $33 million awareness campaign will start with newspaper ads.

"Gradually, the marketing campaign will grow and change to have, you know, TV and radio advertisements."

The campaign urges people to sign up for healthcare insurance by mid-December. That's the deadline for people who want coverage to start on January 1, 2014. Social media will also be part of the marketing campaign.
