Illinois' schools won big from the Mega Millions money. The $656 million jackpot was the biggest in game history. Lottery ticket sales broke records too. That's why $31.5 million will go to schools in the state. The money will fill up the state's common schools fund which helps public elementary and high schools. Since the 1970's, the Illinois Lottery has given more than $17 billion to that fund.
