Officers Graduate from PTI Basic Law Enforcement Class

URBANA-- It was a bitter sweet day for a group of graduates. They may be the last graduating class from the U of I's Police Training Institute.
The University of Illinois's Police Training Institute held a graduation ceremony today.  Officers were celebrating the end of their basic law enforcement class.  It lasted 12 weeks but they may be the last people ever to take the class.  It was canceled earlier this month.
"It's kind of an honor but it's kind of sad to see it go.  We all kind of wish it was staying open but we're glad to be graduation from there and kind of honored to be the last class," said Chelsey Keyes.  Keyes was one of forty graduates today.  She will soon be working for the Champaign County Sheriff's Office.
The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board says a new training academy in Macomb will serve incoming students.
