UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- One man's trash is another man's treasure. That's the thinking which keeps one Champaign organization in business.

The Preservation and Conservation Association (PACA) tries to salvage things in buildings before they're torn down. That's what they're trying to do for two buildings on UI campus.

They sit on East Armory, but soon the UI is getting rid of them. So, PACA is trying to save what's inside. Tom Garza is the executive director. He says they're trying to salvage things like doors, windows, even lights or handles; all things which are actually still usable.

They even sell them at their store. But, the UI has to give them permission first. UI Associate Chancellor Robin Kaler says they're still waiting on a "yes" or "no" answer from the state.

Garza says they tried to talk UI out of demolishing the buildings to begin with, but the decision had already been made.
