SPRINGFIELD -- P.E. classes around the state could soon force students to be more active. The state's Enhance P.E. Task Force is sharing a new report suggesting ways of improving kids' health. Research shows kids who are more active in P.E. and at recess perform better in class than students who are less active.

Soon, P.E. programs could focus more on achieving optimal health and physical fitness and less on competitive sports. School officials could begin phasing in the new standards next school year.
