Pelini on Scheelhaase: "We wanted him"

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nathan Scheelhaase has put together a remarkable four year career at Illinois, but it almost never even started.

Scheelhaase was widely recruited coming out of Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, Mo., and one of the colleges that wanted him badly was this week's opponent: Nebraska.

Scheelhaase said he thought long and hard about possibly playing for the Huskers.  Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini thought Scheelhaase might be a perfect fit for his system in Lincoln.

Of course Scheelhaase picked Illinois, and the rest is history - but Pelini hasn't forgotten why Scheelhaase was so high on his list years ago.

"We thought he was a really good player when we recruited him," Pelini sais this week.  "He was a good football player that could do a lot of things that would fit our style of offense that we were going to start moving towards.  He plays within their offense.  He understands where to go with the football in the throwing game, and obviously he is capable of hurting you with his feet."
