Pension solution could be on the horizon

SPRINGFIELD -- A group of lawmakers tasked with solving the state's pension crisis may be close to a solution.
SPRINGFIELD -- A group of lawmakers tasked with solving the state's pension crisis may be close to a solution. Published reports say the committee could have a compromise within the next week or so.

The ten-member committee has been meeting for the past four months, trying to reach an agreement on a plan to save the worst pension system in the country. The group could be about ten days away from something, but democrats on the committee reportedly are concerned republicans aren't going to go along with the plan.

Three of four republicans are running for higher office, including Senator Bill Brady (R), who's taking another run for the governor's office.

Governor Quinn stripped lawmakers of their pay until they reach a solution on pension reform. They're suing the state over it and have a court date scheduled for Wednesday.
