MACON COUNTY -- A man is arrested for burglary and police say he admits entering more than 100 unlocked cars and garages. Damyen Stevens was arrested early Sunday morning, but not without a chase. WCIA-3's Anthony Antoine has more.

Police identified him as a suspect in several robberies in Decatur and Mount Zion. Sheriff's deputies pulled him over for an equipment violation. Stevens ran, but police caught him.

One homeowner says it's something he never expected to happen in his neighborhood.

"Generally, very safe. Very quite-type of neighborhood. You don't have to lock your doors, basically, until, of course, what happened to us."

Samuel Babich has lived in Ashland Estates for 14 years. October 30, the unexpected happened.

"We were getting ready to visit my son in college. I went into my car to get some things out and notice my iPod was missing. I looked in my dashboard and my radar detector was gone. I looked in my glove compartment where i keep extra money, that was gone."

"All unlocked cars and small electronics were being removed from these cars."

That day, police got several calls about thefts in the area. It would continue for another month.

"Kind of startling that type of invasion on your privacy, basically. Yeah, shock for this neighborhood."

Mt. Zion police identified the suspect as Damyen Stevens, 23, of Decatur.

"On the 26th of November, we started to try to find this guy again and we received information that he may be living in the 900-block of Westwood."

After a chase, Stevens was arrested.

"I'm real happy that they were caught."

But, Babich has learned a very important lesson.

"I guess it takes something like this to kind of wake you up a little bit and realize something like this can happen anywhere."

Police say Stevens sold all the items he took. He's been convicted of burglary in the past. He's also a registered sex offender.
