UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- Police are asking for help identifying a suspect in the theft of a purse and laptop computer. The items were taken, Sunday, March 24 from a vehicle in the parking garage of a building in the 500-block of South Third Street.

About 10 am, Monday, the purse was found in the lower level men's restroom in the Illini Union. While reviewing security video from the Union, police found a possible suspect who entered the building about 15 minutes before the woman's purse was found.

Video showed him carrying several bags when entering, and leaving without any baggage. Police say the video shows it looked like the suspect had something stuffed into his coat.

He's described as a black man, 5'10" - 6'2", with an athletic build and slight goatee. He was wearing a green or blue stocking hat, a dark-colored Carhartt-type hooded jacket, blue jeans and tan workbook.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers. You can remain anonymous and may earn a cash reward.
