Police say "take precautions"

SPRINGFIELD -- How many times have you thought to yourself, "there's not enough time in the day to get everything done"?
SPRINGFIELD -- How many times have you thought to yourself, "there's not enough time in the day to get everything done"? Add to that summertime activities and vacations and sometimes we let our guard down.

Police remind us to put safety first. Officers say we need to stop and think a minute before we leave our cars in a parking lot, or even home in the driveway, unlocked.

They say you should roll up the windows and lock the doors. Also, put anything of value in the trunk, or take it inside. They're small steps which could stop someone from stealing what's in your car.

Double-checking your home is also a good idea. Police suggest you lock all doors and windows, especially any doors from the house to the garage.

Turn on lights at night and even a radio or TV when you're not there. If you have a security system, use it.

These safety tips may not stop every criminal, but police say they will improve your chances of not becoming a target.
