ILLINOIS -- The state is now tracking, through public schools, how many students are homeless. The Illinois school Report Card breaks down the numbers.

For the 2012-13 school year, about 15% of Illinois' schools have homeless students. That population makes up an average of 4% in each school.

Last school year, at least 46,000 students in Illinois were homeless. That's an increase of about 18% from two years ago.
