CHAMPAIGN -- People are speaking out saying violence in their city is not okay. Council representative for the north part of town, William Kyles, says people have been contacting him through social media and email stating they want to step up and help.

Some have volunteered to canvas the area and keep an eye out for dangerous situations. Kyles also pointed out the latest shooting happened near a school, several daycares and churches. Neighbors say it's even more important to keep those areas safe.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers. You can remain anonymous and may earn a cash reward.
