CHAMPAIGN -- Illinois junior Rayvonte Rice was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday.  The Centennial grad averaged 21 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals in a pair Illinois victories over UNLV and IPFW.  Aside from the numbers, Rice's impact was huge.  He made some key baskets down the stretch against UNLV and clinched the IPFW game with a late steal.

"It feels good," Rice said.  "It's really a team award.  A lot of people thinks it's just about scoring, but it's about rebounding, steals and all that.  That's what coach emphasizes every day.  You have to play hard and compete."

Rice and the Illini take the court on Tuesday night when they visit Georgia Tech in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge (6:15 pm, ESPN2).
