Several new faces to fill school board seats

CHAMPAIGN -- Several fresh faces will soon take a seat on the school board. Five people are vying to fill three spots. They are Laurie Bonnett, Chuck Jackson, Scott MacAdam, John Williams III and Lynn Stuckey. The openings are for four-year terms.

One major topic surrounding the election has to do with Central High School. The district is trying to decide whether to renovate the school or build a new one. The board president says topics like this should be a big draw for voters.

"I'm very hopeful that people are paying attention to the school board elections. It's a critical role for people to play," said board president Stig Lanesskog. "Our schools are so essential to, not only the kids who are in them, but the parents who are there, also the community-at-large, so I'm really hoping they're paying close attention and making some careful choices about who's on the board."

Voters will also fill two other seats. Two candidates are running for two-year terms. The election is Tuesday, April 9.
