Skype could be used to save money

SPRINGFIELD -- A new law could help save thousands of your tax dollars, all thanks to technology.
SPRINGFIELD -- A new law could help save thousands of your tax dollars, all thanks to technology. Starting in January, local state's attorneys will be able to use Skype or other video-messaging programs to get certain witness testimony.

It will cut down on time and travel costs. In some cases, counties have to fly victims or experts in, just to talk to them for a few minutes. Sangamon County State's Attorney John Milhiser said it can save thousands of dollars.

"You could have one where they could be in California, you'd have to fly that witness in, pay for hotel possibly, so it can save taxpayers here in Sangamon County."

This would only be used in financial crimes, such as cases of identity theft or tax fraud. It will help attorneys resolve issues more quickly.
