Smart technology center opens

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- A new collaboration will help workers develop appliances for your home.
UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- A new collaboration will help workers develop appliances for your home. Ameren and the University of Illinois are partnering to start the Smart Grid Technology Applications Center in Champaign. The $3.3 million dollar project will let them test products to make sure they work like they should before they hit stores. It's also expected to create hundreds of jobs.

Workers can bring projects to the site or test them on campus through a fiber optic wire connection. Chancellor Phyllis Wise says this will help the University of Illinois stay on the cutting edge of advancements in technology.
