CHARLESTON -- Starting Monday, smokers will need to kick the habit if they want to work at a Coles County hospital. Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center announced last month it will screen possible hires for nicotine.

The hospital already has a smoke-free campus, but doctors feel hiring people who don't use tobacco promotes a healthier lifestyle. Current employees are exempt from the rule, but are encouraged to put down the pack.
