Nexstar, owner of WCIA-3 News, WCIX and Illinoishomepage.net, was founded in 1996 in Scranton, PA, with the purchase of a single station.

It went public in November, 2003, to become one of the top 15 television broadcasters in the U.S. In the past two years, Nexstar has acquired 49 stations and two digital media companies totaling more than $826 million, nearly doubling the size of the company's portfolio.
