URBANA -- University of Illinois students are building a house completely powered by the sun. It's being built at Peking University in China.

The students are competing in the "Solar Decathlon." The competition is held once every two years. This will be the first one outside the U.S. The students say it's a rewarding team effort.

"Working on a project for a year and a half, there are a lot of struggles," said project architect Zak Helmick. "But getting to see it finally complete and walk through the house, fully appreciate the house being done, and knowing that with a team of 60 people, we got to, as a group of students, fully design and build a house from scratch."

Their 2011 house is on South Race Street in Urbana. The students will join their teammates in China this weekend. The Solar Decathlon begins in August.
