CHAMPAIGN -- Students hold panels to discuss issues which could affect them at the polls. UI students are digging into key issues of this year's election. Students sat in on a political panel discussion about student activism. It covered how social media and race affect politics.

Well-known journalists led the discussion. Students organized the event to help young people make informed decisions at the polls.

"It's more so that we just really need to be aware, and really cognizant of what's going on in Congress," says Bianca Flowers.

"The laws that are enacted affect all of us, and for people to think critically about the information that's being conveyed about these issues so they can be smart consumers and good citizens," says Christopher Benson, a UI professor.

The student chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists organized the event.
