Three armed robberies in 75-minutes

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- Police are investigating three armed robberies.
CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- Police are investigating three armed robberies. All happened within 75-minutes with similar methods, causing authorities to believe they are related.

The first happened, Tuesday, August 7, about 11 pm near Chalmers and Oak in Champaign. A victim was approached by a man on a BMX-style bike.

The victim was ordered to stop when the suspect put a gun to the victim's head. A second suspect then emptied the victim's pockets taking a cellphone and wallet.

The second happened about a half-hour later near Birch and Oregon streets in Urbana. A victim was talking on a cellphone and did not notice anyone approaching him.

A man on a bike jumped off the bike in front of the victim, pointed a gun in his face and demanded his cellphone. A second suspect then took the victim's wallet from his back pocket.

The third happened just after midnight, August 8, near Maple and Florida in Urbana. The victim heard someone running toward him and was approached by two suspects with a gun.

He was told to hand over everything he had, at which time, he fell into the street. The suspect with the gun took the victim's backpack and kicked the victim in the face.

The first suspect is described as a black man, 17-20 years old, 5'10"- 5'11", about 150-170 lbs. He was wearing a dark-colored hat and dark clothing. He was carrying a handgun.

The second suspect is also a black male, but information about his description is unavailable since he stood behind each victim.
