SPRINGFIELD -- A Sangamon County man driving the wrong way down the highway caused a three-car crash Monday morning. Police say William Parrish, 89, was heading east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 72 near MacArthur Boulevard.

Cheryl Sauerhage, 45, of Litchfield, was driving a station wagon and could not avoid Parrish. They collided head-on. The two cars also collided with another car, driven by 48-year old Leann Riefler, of Divernon.

Parrish was seriously hurt, and was taken to the hospital. Sauerhage was also taken to the hospital while Riefler was not injured. Parrish was cited for driving the wrong way on the interstate.
