Turnovers continue to haunt Illini

The Illinois football team was never really in the game Saturday at Nebraska. They fall to 0-1 in the Big Ten, and head coach Tim Beckman says turnovers continue to be a major problem.
LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Illinois football team was never really in the game Saturday at Nebraska.  They fall to 0-1 in the Big Ten, and head coach Tim Beckman says turnovers continue to be a major problem.

Illinois lost the turnover battle Saturday for the second straight game.  They are dead last in the Big Ten in takeaways and only have one interception, which is by far the fewest in the league.

"The game of football is about controlling the football and taking care of the football," Beckman said after Saturday's 39-19 loss in Lincoln.  "We have to create more turnovers on defense, and we cannot turn the football over when you're playing a team that had an opportunity to play in December last year."

Illinois is off this week.  They are back in action at home Saturday, October 19th against Wisconsin (7 p.m., BTN).
