UI hopes art won't go "down the drain"

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- The UI wants to fight pollution through art.
UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- The UI wants to fight pollution through art. It's looking for painters to decorate storm drains as a way to bring attention to litter clogging up the waterways.

When it rains, trash left on the street finds its way to the storm drains. It causes flooding and pollution.

University leaders hope noticing the storm drains will remind people to clean up. The UI partnered with several groups including the Public Art League, City of Champaign and the Urbana Park District.

Artists must apply by Saturday.
