DECATUR -- An unknown, powdery substance has been tested by the Decatur Fire Department and determined to be non-hazardous. There was no danger to anyone at Decatur CC. Further testing will determine precisely what the substance is.

DECATUR -- An unknown substance caused an evacuation at a Central Illinois prison. An unknown, powdery substance was found in a piece of mail at Decatur Correctional Center.

The nature of the substance, contained in a small, sealed plastic bag could not be immediately determined. There was no danger to anyone at the Correctional Center.

Following procedure, all personnel were evacuated from the administrative area of the building, and the FBI and Decatur Fire Department were called. The Illinois State Police also responded, and it was determined that the DFD Hazardous Material Team would test the substance.

All inmates were returned to their cells and have remained during the testing. All evacuated personnel were examined as a precaution. The substance is still being tested.
