URBANA -- University of Illinois students came together to remember one of their own Tuesday night. They held a vigil at the Alma Mater site on campus to raise awareness about domestic abuse.

A 25-year old Mengchen Huang was killed two weeks ago. Investigators say it was at the hands of her ex-boyfriend. Organizers encouraged people to talk about what was in their hearts and minds.

"It's a big deal and it can lead to unfortunate events like what happened two weekends ago," said UI junior Emilie Iannarelli. "It is uncomfortable to talk about, but it should be talked about."

Researchers say about 85% of students have been abused in their most recent relationship. It's a statistic which shocked people attending the vigil. They say most incidents involve emotional abuse, but sexual and physical abuse happen as well.
