This Day In Weather History2002 - A significant amount of snow and ice came to southern Illinois, starting on the 4th and into the 5th. Most of the precipitation was snow, except in the counties near the Ohio River where it was freezing rain. Ice added up to 1/4" from Ciro toe Metropolis and Golconda. Snow piled up to 8 inches. Travel was rough during the storm and numerous vehicle accidents were reported. Schools closed fro the remainder of the week in some places.
