This Day In Weather History1985 - Chicago's O'hare International Airport droped to 27 below zero, which is an all-time record low temperature. There were also more daily records set in Champaign at 24 below zero, Peoria and Decatur at 22 below zero, and 21 below zero at both Lincoln and Springfield.
2006 - A winter storm struck northern Illinois during the afternoon and evening hours. It would continue into the early morning of the next day and brought up to a foot of snow in some places. The heaviest snow fell across Kane County, southeast McHenry County, northwest Cook County, and most of Lake County. Snowfall in the heaviest band was 10 to 12 inches with areas outside of the heavy band seeing 6 to 9 inches.
