This Day In Weather History1864 - A tornado that started in southeastern Missouri crossed the Mississippi River into southwestern Illinois. The areas around Chester and Richview were affected. A ferry boat on the river was hit with the debris being found over a quarter mile away. Four people in Chester were killed when the late-night tornado destroyed 14 hourses.
1984 - Bond and Fayette Counties were hit by a tornado from Dudleyville to Brownstown. This tornado was on the ground for 30 miles and damaged 175 homes. Much of the damage was in Brownstown where 25 homes were destroyed and 144 were damaged. 11 people were injured.
