This Day In Weather History2001 - East central Illinois had a bout with severe thunderstorms. A tornaod touched down on the southwest side of Monticello and moved northeat, causing $2.2 million in damage. A second tornado touched down around I-57 and I-74 near Champaign, causing $500,000 in damage. Winds gusted to 70 mph with many of the storms and Decatur saw golfball sized hail.
