Friday Flicks: All the Money in the World

CHAMPAIGN--

Molly’s Games (Starts Friday) The true story of Molly Bloom (Jessica Chastain), an Olympic-class skier who ran the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game and became an FBI target. Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin makes his directorial debut and his quick, witty writing style translates well to the screen. The story is initially compelling but is overlong and loses steam as it goes, making its predictable ending land with a bit of a thud. 3 Stars (Chuck Koplinski) Rated R. 140 minutes. AMC-C, AMC-D, SAV.

All the Money in the World. As directed by Ridley Scott, the story of the kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer) and the desperate attempt by his devoted mother (Michelle Williams) to convince his billionaire grandfather Jean Paul Getty (Christopher Plummer) to pay the ransom is a taut fascinating tale of greed and its affect on those who strive for it.  3 ½ Stars (Chuck Koplinski) Rated R. 132 minutes. AMC-C, AMC-D, SAV.
