The drought monitor now shows Illinois in a moderate or severe drought and no longer in a extreme or exceptional drought. This is because of last week's rain as the remnants of Isaac moved through, bringing up to 6" of rain in some places. While the drought isn't over, this is a huge step in the right direction.
There's even more rainfall in the forecast with up to 2" possible Friday, but after that a dry stretch may set up. The rest of the 7-Day Forecast is dry and the 8 to 14 day forecast also has drier that normal weather.
