WX 101: The Moon and Tides

The moon creates a gravitational pull on the Earth's oceans that creates ocean tides. When the moon is on one side of the Earth, it attracted the water on that side and pulls it outward creating high tide. The attraction is less on the Earth, and even less on the water on the other side of the Earth. This creates two bulges of water on each side of the Earth.
