This Day In Weather History1992 - The Embarras River overflowed and filled the streets of Villa Grove. Nearly 2.5" of rain fell in about 4 hours as many storms moved through. Several streets were 3 feet under water and many basements were flooded. Damage from the flood was around $10,000.
1998 - Clay county had two tornadoes as severe thunderstorms moved through. The majority of the damage was in the Flora area where 60 to 70 railroad cars were blown off the tracks. Up to 50 condos were damaged or destroyed along with several homes and a couple of mobile homes. The second tornado wsa north of Flora and then moved into Richland County. Overall damage was over $2 million.
