This Day In Weather History1880 - Many people were killed when several tornadoes hit parts of central and southwest Illinois. An F4 tornado touched down near Jerseyville and killed one person along an 18 mile path. Another F4 tornado passed just north of Carlinville and lifted near Atwater. This tornado destroyed 50 buildings. Christian County was hit by an F5 tornado and 6 people were killed. A fourth tornado touched down a few miles southeast of Springfield and moved northeast to Dawson.
