This Day In Weather History1987 - Severe thunderstorms rolled through central and northern Illinois that brought damaging winds, large hail, and up to 5 inches of rain. Winds gusted between 60 and 80 mph in an area from Moline and Galesburg and reached 75 mph in Quincy. The Illinois State Fair had an 80 mph gust that toppled two tents. 58 people were injured from the tents. Damage from the day totaled $12 million, most of which was due to winds that accentuated flooding in the Chicago area.
